Systems Design and Rollout – Clinical Payments System

Overview

A top Fortune 50 pharmaceutical client was in need of a custom designed and built Clinical Payments System that would interface with its newly upgraded procurement system (SAP).  They required a web-based, validated platform that would utilize an Oracle database and COGNOS reports for analytics.

eta one partnered with this firm to provide program management, business analysis, testing, training and UI design expertise.

Target

Within a 9-month time horizon, provide for a fully validated, custom-built Clinical Payments system, which allows for reporting and a bi-directional feed of payment data to and from the procurement system.

Solution Delivery

This program was delivered utilizing S.C.R.U.M. methodology, enhancing the overall tool through an iterative approach until a viable solution was achieved.  Following this, a classical testing and validation strategy was applied in conjunction with a global training and rollout effort.

Results

The client’s custom requirements were met through a UI design that emphasized simplicity and harmonized a number of departments’ payment efforts and practices.  Several previously manual steps were automated and many duplicate data entry steps were eliminated.  In addition, by leveraging APIs to a number of source systems, the overall Clinical Payments process was made more efficient.  Process metrics taken both before and after the implementation yielded a cycle time improvement of ~65%, freeing up internal resources at our client for additional initiatives.
